Club Membership

Our Club Membership follows the archery calendar and runs annually from October 1st to September 30th of the following year.

Unlike many clubs, our membership fees are all inclusive for all facilities of the club. There are no additional “line fees” payable for each shooting session – as a member, payment of your annual fee entitles you to shoot as often as you like!

If you don’t have your own equipment, a small charge for use of club equipment may be levied. However, members who have recently completed a Beginners’ Course with us are welcome to continue to use club equipment for a further 6-months without charge. While the lure of shiny new equipment can seem irresistible, it’s better if you take advice from our coaches, and take a little time to settle on your preferred bowstyle, before you rush out and buy lots of equipment. So please use club equipment during the first few months, it’s free, and you won’t suffer the buyers-remorse of potentially buying the “wrong” equipment!

Our current membership fees are shown below:

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sign up for a Beginners' Course?

Please see our dedicated Beginners page for information on the process to follow when signing up for a Beginners’ Course, the current cost of a course, and what the course covers over the five-week period. Beginners’ Course sessions take place on Monday evenings.

When and where do you shoot?

On the Sessions page, you’ll find a map and directions to our club located in the Wells Sports Ground. On the same page you’ll find the times when specific club shooting sessions are occuring, but we are fortunate to be able to shoot 24/7 and you’ll typically find someone shooting at any time of day.

I used to shoot with another archery club and am now looking to take up the sport again; how do I go about this?

Please email us (secretary@wellscityarchers.com) and let us know how long ago you used to shoot and your level of experience. We’ll arrange for you to come down to the club where a coach will assess your shooting, discuss membership, and we’ll go from there.

How much is membership of the club?

Fees for Juniors (8-17 years old) and the various categories of Seniors can be found at the top of this page.

Visiting Archery GB members are welcome to shoot with us at our ground following prior email notification of arrival. A small fee of £3.00 (Seniors) or £2.00 (Juniors) is payable on the day – don’t forget to bring your Archery GB membership card!

How much does it cost per session?

Session fees, or “line fees” as we tend to call them in the archery world aren’t payable by our club membership. Your annual membership fee is fully inclusive – shoot at the club as often as you want!

Does the club have equipment for me to hire before I buy my own?

The club has a range of different poundage bows for both right and left-handed archers, in addition to arrows, quivers, arm guards, finger-slings, tabs, etc. These will be provided free of charge to attendees on our Beginners’ Courses but we may make a nominal charge to members borrowing club equipment at other times. We recommend continuing to use club equipment following the completion of a Beginners’ Course as you will still be settling into shooting. As you develop in your archery and start to think about buying your own equipment, our coaches will be very happy to discuss this with you and help you find a bow that suits you… and most of all, one that you enjoy shooting!

I've joined Wells City Archers, when do I get a key?

A new member with access to their own equipment, and judged “safe” by one of our coaches, can apply for a key to the clubhouse after being a member for 6-months. Returning members of Wells City Archers may,  at the discretion of the committee, be given a key after a shorter period.

A £5 fee is payable, to cover the costs of key-cutting.
