Please note that the information below relates to our sessions for club members and guests who are members of Archery GB.
If you’re new to archery then you’ll need to do a Beginners’ Course before being able to shoot at any archery club (more information on this can be found on our Beginners page).
If you’re an Archery GB member who wishes to shoot with us as a guest, please let our Secretary know by email at email@example.com so we can make sure there’s someone available to greet you properly and also to let you know if there are any upcoming events in place of our normal sessions. Please bring your Archery GB card along whenever you shoot with us.
There is a small day-membership charge for visitors: £3.00 for Seniors, £2.00 for Juniors.
Where We Shoot
All of our club sessions take place at Wells Sports Ground (SatNav: Rowdens Road, Wells, Somerset BA5 1TU).
When you enter Rowdens Road, travel to the end of the road and enter the Athletic Ground though the gates on the left. The site is also home to Wells City Football Club, Wells Tennis Club, and Wells Netball Club but we have a dedicated outdoor range that is reserved and marked-out for archery.
Our club building can be seen from the carpark. Look towards the tennis courts and our Indoor Range & Clubhouse is between the tennis courts on the right, and the netball courts on the left. You should be able to see the distinctive Archery artwork on our wall.
When We Shoot
With dedicated facilities, we are able to enjoy archery 365 days a year!
Weather and light permitting, our outdoor range is always “open for business”. Our indoor range allows us to continue shooting when weather and light prevents us from enjoying the delights of our English climate.
Whilst members can use the facilities at any time of day/night throughout the year, we are a sociable group and enjoy meeting up at specific times throughout the week where we can interact, learn from each other and receive tuition from our own coaching team.
Tuesday and Friday evenings are Club Nights: 7pm – 9pm. Shooting either indoors or outside depending on weather and daylight.
Thursday evening is Next Steps: 6:30pm – 8:30pm. These are coach-led sessions for our “Early Archers” (post-Beginners & those shooting less than a year or so) to develop and enhance their archery skills further.
Sessions on Saturday morning (10am-12noon) are aimed at our Juniors in coach-led sessions. Either indoors or outside depending on weather.
Because of the age-range of our membership, on most days of the week you’ll generally see a group of our members shooting together in the morning or afternoon. So there is always plenty of opportunity to shoot and be sociable with other archers.
Students who are affiliated to Archery GB through their college or university archery club are welcome to shoot with us over their Christmas, Easter and Summer holidays (or any other time!). If you’re local and would like some extra practice sessions, just email our secretary (firstname.lastname@example.org) before coming for the first time and bring your Archery GB card with you, together with the day-membership fee.
